Shogi Dojo in ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini
Connect Shogi Dojo to the AI you already talk to, and it can go over your games with you, look up what players usually play from a position, and turn your mistakes into a review list — only after you allow it, and only as you.
1 What it can do
Once connected, the AI has five tools. It uses them when what you ask needs them, and only on your own account.
- List my games — your own games, newest first. It can narrow them by result or opponent, and page further back.
- Read a game — one game in full: the players, the result, the time control, every move (in USI and in Japanese notation) and the KIF record.
- Explore a position — for a position given as SFEN, the moves players chose from it in Shogi Dojo's game database, with how often each was played and its share, by rank band. These are statistics from public games, with no player names.
- List my review lists — your review (next-move quiz) lists.
- Create a review list — a new list from positions, each with the right move and a comment. It only ever creates: no tool can edit or delete an existing list, a game or anything else.
2 Things to ask
- “Go through my last game and tell me where it turned.”
- “Who did I lose to this month, and how did those games end?”
- “From the position after move 30 of that game, what do stronger players usually play?”
- “Make a review list called ‘My mistakes’ from the moves I got wrong in my last three losses.”
3 Connecting
Every way of connecting ends on a Shogi Dojo page that asks you, signed in, whether to allow it. The address the AI app needs is:
https://shogidojo.online/api/mcp Once Shogi Dojo is listed in ChatGPT's plugin directory, find it there and choose Connect. Until then, an account with developer mode can add it: Settings → Security and login → Developer mode, then the + button on chatgpt.com/plugins, with the address above.
Add it as a custom connector: Customize → Connectors → Add custom connector, with the address above. Claude opens the sign-in page the first time a tool is used.
Add the server from a terminal, then run /mcp in Claude Code to sign in:
claude mcp add --transport http shogidojo https://shogidojo.online/api/mcp Gemini connects to the same remote server; there is nothing to install. Run /mcp auth shogidojo in Gemini CLI to sign in:
gemini mcp add --transport http shogidojo https://shogidojo.online/api/mcp 4 How connecting works
- The AI app asks Shogi Dojo's server for something and is told it needs your permission, and where to ask for it.
- It opens a Shogi Dojo page in your browser. If you are not signed in, you sign in first, with the account that should be connected.
- The page names the app, the website your answer is sent to, and whether it asks only to read or also to create review lists. You press Allow or Deny.
- On Allow, the app receives a key for your account that lasts an hour and renews itself while you use it. Your password never leaves Shogi Dojo.
5 Permissions
- Read and write — the usual connection. The app can use all five tools. Writing only ever creates a new review list.
- Read only — when the app asks only to read. Creating a list is refused by the server.
- Either way, the app acts as the account you connected and reaches only that account's games and lists, plus the shared position statistics. It cannot play a move, change your profile, password or settings, or delete anything.
6 What the AI sees, and what we keep
- The AI receives only what its tools return while you use it — your games, their moves and records, your review lists, and position statistics. That then sits with the AI provider under their own privacy policy, like anything else you tell it.
- We never receive your conversation with the AI. We keep the connection itself: the app's name, its redirect addresses, what it may do, when it was last used, and a hash of its keys — never the keys themselves.
- A review list it creates is saved in your account, as if you had made it yourself.
- A connection nobody uses for 90 days ends on its own.
7 Disconnecting
In Shogi Dojo, open your account settings and disconnect the app under Connected apps. It stops working at once, whatever the AI app still shows. Removing the connector in the AI app alone does not revoke its key on our side.
